ADB approves $200 million to upgrade Pakistan's power supply system

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide financial assistance to Pakistan to modernise the power distribution system of the country and improve bill collections.
A statement issued by the lenders confirmed that the ADB approved $200 million in financial aid for Pakistan to upgrade the electricity system, and it will be credited soon, which aims to provide unsuspended energy across the country.
The fund will be used to upgrade the infrastructure of LESCO, MEPCO, and SEPCO, it would facilitate the business sector by ensuring the continuous supply of electricity as well.
While the financial aid will also support preventing harm by improving the infrastructure, as the authority believes that the minimal electrical damage would minimise the financial loss of the business sector.
However, the project will also support domestic consumers by installing 323,200 new meters, which would provide timely and accurate data on units used by consumers to the Discos.
Moreover, online transformer monitoring has also been added to the project’s draft.
According to the statement, the amount will be used to upgrade four 66 kW grid stations of Sepco to 132 kW, modernising 25 grid stations in Lesco while upgrading the distribution system will reduce losses and increase bill collection.
