AI and robotics will be formally introduced into the curriculum of schools and colleges in Islamabad from the upcoming academic session, marking a significant step towards preparing students for a technology-driven future.
According to the new policy by the national curriculum council, students from nursery to class 5 will be exposed to AI as an extra-curricular subject, focusing on basic concepts through engaging and experimental learning.
However, from classes 6 to 8, students will be given the choice between computer studies or AI, while students in classes 9 to 12 can opt for AI as an elective. Moreover, the federal board will also include AI as a subject.
According to the ministry of education, the AI & robotics curriculum aims to build competencies in automation, intelligent systems, robotics design and real-world problem solving.
The director of NCC, Dr Tabassum Naz, explained that the policy was drafted in consultation with provincial education departments.
Furthermore, she noted that implementation will begin in Islamabad in April, setting a precedent for mainstreaming AI education nationwide.
