A heated exchange took place during a meeting of the Senate’s Functional Committee on Wednesday between Awami National Party (ANP) leader Senator Aimal Wali Khan and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman.

The confrontation occurred during a session chaired by Senator Agha Shahzeb Durrani, when the PTA chairman accused Senator Aimal Wali of using narcotics. In a startling remark, the PTA chairman allegedly said, “Give me the same charas (cannabis cigarette) you smoked.”

The accusation drew a sharp rebuke from Senator Aimal Wali, who questioned how a public official could make such a claim against a lawmaker.

“Who gave you the audacity to speak like this?” he asked, calling the comment inappropriate and unacceptable.

In response to the backlash, the PTA chairman offered an apology, admitting the remark was a mistake.

However, tensions escalated as Senator Aimal Wali called for disciplinary action against the PTA official, stating, “Either he stays in the meeting or I do.” He demanded that the committee take notice and initiate proceedings against the chairman.

The situation forced the PTA chairman to leave the meeting. Committee Chairman Senator Agha Shahzeb Durrani condemned the behavior, saying the remark insulted not just Senator Aimal Wali but the entire committee.

He stated the matter would be taken up with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and asked the IT Ministry secretary to take notice.
