Pakistani-American businessman Ali Sheikhani secured a victory in the November 5 elections for the Fort Bend County constable position as the Republican candidate, defeating Democrat Nabil Shike.
County constable elections are local electoral races where voters choose individuals to serve in law enforcement roles for a specific term within the county.
Originally from Karachi, Ali Sheikhani spent much of his life in the US. He worked as a police officer in Texas before transitioning into business.
He founded the Shekhani Group in 2012, initially operating in Texas and later expanding into Pakistan.
Over the past 12 years, his company has grown to include 40 businesses across the US and Pakistan, along with 250 retail outlets.
The Shekhani Group currently employs 2,000 individuals and has diversified into various sectors, including gas stations, petrol pumps, solar energy, and other energy solutions.
The group is also engaged in real estate projects, such as the development of shopping plazas, although details of its assets are not publicly available on the company's website.
