Army Chief Gen Asim Munir promoted to Field Marshal rank on my decision: PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the decision to elevate Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal was made by him.

Speaking to senior journalists, the Prime Minister added that he consults PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif before taking any major decisions.

It is worth noting that the federal cabinet approved the promotion of Chief of Army Staff Gen Asim Munir to the rank of Field Marshal in recognition of his exceptional strategy during Marka e Haq and specifically Operation Bunyanum Marsoos.

A special guard of honour ceremony was held at Yadgar-e-Shuhada, General Headquarters on Wednesday (GHQ) Rawalpindi to honour Field Marshal General Syed Asim Munir.

During the ceremony, Field Marshal Gen Asim Munir laid a wreath at the monument and offered Fateha in remembrance of martyrs.

PM Shehbaz stated that Israel supported India during its war with Pakistan, and that Israeli weapons were used in several locations, including Srinagar in IIOJK.

Addressing the media, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that war is never a permanent solution. Lasting peace is the only guarantee of a secure future.

He further stated that in any future talks between Pakistan and India regarding terrorism, both countries' national security advisers will participate.
