As thousands of intermediate students have been protesting against the results by the election board, the Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) has decided to give up to 15% additional marks in the results of first-year students. 

The decision to give additional marks to students of Pre-Engineering, Pre-Medical, and General Science Part-I on the directives of caretaker Sindh Chief Minister Justice (retd) Maqbool Baqir.

The committee, formed on the directions of interim CM, revealed that over 60% of students were failed due to results tampering.

Interim CM Justice Baqir also approved the recommendation of the committee related to terminating IT in charge of BIEK.

The head of the fact-finding committee Dr Sarosh Lodhi presented the report before the CM Baqir with the recommendation to give additional marks to students who failed due to the negligence of the board.

Under the recommendations 15 marks in physics and mathematics, 12 marks in statistics and chemistry, while 6 will be added in botany, and zoology each. 

The committee directed to make and implement a new paper pattern and marks scheme before the commencement of a fresh education year, which would be effective for at least three years. 

The caretaker CM also directed the concerned authorities to extend the number of scrutiny centres by 10 and that the scrutiny will be done by using the method of optical mark recognition (OMR).

The government also showed consensus to train the head examiners, examiners, invigilators, and other members who are directly or indirectly involved in the examination process.

“The rules and regulations should be strictly enforced in the board of Karachi intermediate board,” interim CM said, adding that “Examination controller, deputy controllers, and IT managers will be responsible for holding the examinations in the city.”
