An eight-year-old boy lost his arm after a pet lion attacked him at a private breeding farm in Lahore, on Saturday.

The attack took place at the Dola farm when the child, Wajid Ali, reportedly went too close to the lion’s enclosure while playing. Due to inadequate safety arrangements, the lion attacked the child and severely injured his arm.

According to reports, the farm owners tried to cover up the incident by telling medical staff that the boy’s arm had been injured in a machine accident. However, doctors examined the wounds were from an animal bite. The arm had to be amputated due to severity of the injury, to save his life.

The child was then transferred to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital for further treatment.

FIR was launched against the farm owners, identified as Umar Iqbal and Ali Iqbal. Both of them have been arrested after they attempted to conceal the criminal negligence in safety that led to the incident.

DIG Faisal Kamran said legal action would be taken, stressing that endangering human lives for commercial gain will not be tolerated.

Just days earlier, a pet lioness attacked a young girl in Lahore’s Bhekewal area, prompting the recovery of multiple lions kept without licenses. Under Punjab wildlife laws, keeping lions without permission can result in heavy fines and imprisonment.
