After nine months of detention, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan's wife, Bushra Bibi, has been released from Adiala jail after securing post-arrest bail in new Toshakhana case.
A day ago, the IHC, while accepting the petition of the former first lady, granted her bail in Toshakhana reference II against surety bonds worth Rs1 million.
In the petition, Bushra Bibi had raised the question on the inquiry of the case, stating, “The investigation was not transparent."
She maintained that the case was aimed at keeping her in jail and the "same cases were being run from different angles.”
Previously, a trial court had terminated the post-arrest bail of Imran Khan’s spouse on September 30.
The former first lady was taken into custody on January 31 following the order of the Islamabad accountability court that sentenced the couple to 14 years to imprison in the Toshakhana reference I.
Both were sentenced before a week of the general election, they were barred from holding any public office for 10 years with a Rs787 million fine.
On April 1, the IHC suspended the 14-year sentences, but two were not released as they had been convicted in another case.
On July 12, the IHC acquitted them from an un-Islamic marriage case, which opened the door for the couple to be released from jail, and they had already been granted bail in a £190 million case.
However, the next day, the already imprisoned former prime minister was re-arrested in connection to the May 9 case.
Alongside May 9, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were incarcerated in Toshakhana reference II, which revolves around a Bvlgari jewellery gift set, including a necklace, earrings, bracelets, and rings.
