A case has been registered against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Shail Afridi under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly making statements against state institutions, officials said on Friday.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), the case was lodged at the Cyber Crime Reporting Centre in Islamabad on the complaint of a sub-inspector of the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA).
The FIR stated that videos circulating on social media contained comments aimed at damaging the reputation of the state and national security institutions. It added that the KP chief minister made “false and baseless” remarks against state institutions during a media talk outside Adiala Jail.
The report also noted that the same video was later shared through the official social media page of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Authorities said an investigation is underway to determine the extent of the video’s circulation and identify those responsible for disseminating it online.
