Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja will monitor the upcoming presidential elections in Russia as a foreign observer to ensure transparency and impartiality.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) chief has departed for Moscow today (Thursday) in order to fulfill the observer's duties in polls.

The Pakistani electoral body's head was invited by the Russian government as an observer.

The Russian presidential elections are slated to take place between March 15 and 17 with almost 112.3 million people will exercise their right to vote.

According to the Independent, four candidates are vying for the country's top post; Vladimir Putin, Nikolai Kharitonov, Leonid Slutsky and Vladislav Davankov.

However, Vladimir Putin is expected to be elected as president of Russia for at least another six years.
