Bodies of two children recovered after father allegedly jumps into sea at Karachi's Do Darya

Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of two children from the waters of Do Darya following an extensive search operation. Their father had allegedly thrown them into the sea on Thursday before jumping in himself, reportedly to prevent them from being taken into their mother’s custody.

Aurangzeb Alam, 40, had reportedly fallen into depression due to domestic issues and had separated from his wife. These problems allegedly pushed him to take the extreme step of attempting suicide along with his children.

The deceased children, Ahmed, 8, and Ayat, 4, ended up in the deep sea.

After the incident, rescue teams were informed, but the bodies could not be found due to poor visibility at night. The operation resumed in the morning, resulting in the discovery of the children’s bodies near Sea View.

The search for the father's body is still ongoing.

Aurangzeb’s brother, Saghir Alam, told the media that he was a resident of Orangi Town, Sector C-14, and that Aurangzeb was a teacher by profession. He had separated from his wife due to domestic issues and had filed a petition for custody of the children.

The day before the incident, the court had awarded custody of the children to the deceased’s wife.

Earlier, police and rescue officials confirmed that a rescue operation is underway after reports emerged of three individuals drowning in the sea. The incident was reported in the early evening on Thursday, prompting immediate response from emergency teams.

"The man brought his children to the beach and jumped into the water with them," a police official told reporters. "Rescue teams are actively searching for all three individuals."
