The Lahore High Court has barred Punjab Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar from immediately arresting underage drivers.
According to details, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum took notice of the arrests of minors for traffic violations.
Chief Justice Aalia Neelum remarked that an awareness campaign should be run first regarding underage drivers. She stated that minors driving motorcycles or cars for the first time should be given a warning, and repeated violations should be dealt with according to the law.
It is worth mentioning that a day earlier, on the special instructions of the Chief Traffic Officer Gujranwala, a large-scale crackdown was launched to enforce traffic laws and curb underage driving.
At various locations in Nowshera Virkan and at the main chowk, traffic wardens set up checkpoints and took action against underage drivers and those riding without helmets.
According to sources, dozens of motorcyclists were arrested for driving without a license, without a helmet, and for being underage, while many motorcycles were also confiscated.
Wardens emphasized that underage driving is not only illegal but also results from parental negligence, which often leads to accidents.
After the operation, large crowds of parents and citizens gathered outside the Nowshera Virkan police station, requesting the release of their underage children and seized motorcycles.
Traffic wardens stated that this campaign is aimed at protecting the lives of citizens. They appealed to parents not to hand over motorcycles to minors, warning that legal action can be taken against parents if violations continue.
