Inspector General Police (IGP) Ghulam Nabi Memon suspended the Counter Terrorism Department’s (CTD) Station House Officer (SHO) Imdad Khawaja and his team without taking departmental action over their alleged involvement in short-term kidnapping for ransom.

The report stated that despite several complaints against SHO, the police head did not order departmental action against suspects.

However, suspects were arrested in a raid conducted by Rangers at Karachi’s civil lines police station, from where they recovered abducted Alyan, who was kidnapped from Shahrah-e-Faisal.

The First Information Report (FIR) registered on the complaint of Alyan’s maternal uncle stated that he worked as Lance Naik in Sindh Rangers.

"My nephew, Alyan, arrived in Karachi from Iraq on May 19, he was stopped by police at Shahrah-e-Faisal, pulled out of the taxi, and taken away," victim's uncle said.

“Following two days of his missing, we received a phone call from a person who introduced himself as CTD official. He demanded Rs1.5 million ransom for Alyan’s release,” he added in his FIR.

The victim's uncle further said that the matter was settled in Rs100,000, and CTD officials asked him to reach civil lines with the decided amount.

However, the suspects released the abducted boy after taking ransom.

Subsequently, in a few seconds, rangers entered CTD’s office and arrested SHO Imdad and his companions red-handed.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Central Police Office (CPO) received several complaints against Khawaja. He was also accused of short-term kidnapping, and was also removed from office before.
