Renowned human rights activist Dr Mahrang Baloch has been named in Time magazine’s annual list of the '100 Most Influential People of 2024' for her impactful advocacy for human rights.

The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) leader was recognised for highlighting Baloch rights through peaceful efforts.

She spearheaded a march to Islamabad in December 2023, alongside a large group of women demanding justice for their missing husbands, sons, and brothers.

“The march brought unprecedented attention to the Baloch struggle, and Mahrang believes the momentum she has created will continue,” the magazine reported.

The TIME100 Next list highlights "influential" individuals from all walks of life who are “making an impact early on in their careers.”

Taking to Instagram, Mahrang expressed her gratitude for the global honour, stating, “I dedicate this recognition to all Baloch women human rights defenders and the families of victims of enforced disappearances.”

The 31-year-old doctor has been protesting for missing persons in Balochistan since childhood. Her father was also abducted in 2009 and his tortured body was discovered in 2011.

Bangladeshi student leader Nahid Islam, who led anti-government protests against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Wajid, was also included among the 100 influential figures of 2024.

Palestinian food blogger Hamada Shaqoura also earned a spot on the Time’s 100 list for his videos showing large meal preparations amidst the Israeli military offensive in Gaza, which he distributes to displaced civilians.
