Renowned Pakistani astronomer Dr Faheem Hashmi has predicted that Eidul Azha in Pakistan is likely to be observed on June 7, 2025 (Friday).

According to Dr Hashmi, the moon is not expected to be visible in Pakistan on May 27, as it will be only 11 hours old at sunset, too young to be sighted with the naked eye or telescope.

However, he said the moon will likely be clearly visible across the country on May 28, when its age will exceed 35 hours, making moon sighting highly probable.

Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, there is a possibility of moon sighting on May 27 with the help of telescopes, which could lead to Hajj on June 5, and Eid on June 6.

Dr Hashmi emphasised that while official announcements will be made by relevant religious and meteorological authorities, astronomical data suggests that Eidul Azha in Pakistan will most likely be celebrated on June 7, following the moon sighting on May 28.

The prediction aligns with the lunar calendar followed in the region and offers a tentative schedule for the public to prepare for one of the most significant Islamic festivals.
