Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has established an endowment fund facility for low-income families’ children to help them in obtaining higher education.

The announcement came after a month of implementation of the education emergency, which prompted the authorities to provide education to around 26 million out-of-school children.

The Pakistan Education Endowment Fund will provide facilities to children from low-income families.

Abdullah A Fadil, a representative for United Nations Children’s Funds (Unicef), said over 70 percent of children aged 10 in Pakistan could not read and understand the text.

In this regard, Premier Sharif met with Oxford Union President Israr Khan Kakar at PM House and decided that under this facility, at least 20 percent of the quota would be allocated to the youth of Balochistan.

PM appreciated Kakar for his victory in the elections of Oxford Union in June as he became the third Pakistani and first Balochi President of the prestigious facility.

“Winning the scholarships throughout the academic career and then his election as president of a great body like Oxford Union by a youngster coming from a backward area of Balochistan is a matter of pride,” said PM Shehbaz.

Israr Khan also expressed gratitude towards the Premier for his government’s efforts to promote skilled youth and provide them equal opportunities.
