Former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG-ISI), Faiz Hameed, who is currently facing a court martial for his involvement in political activities and violation of the Official Secret Act, denied the accusations of guiding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in political affairs.
His comments came in response to a report by The News, which stated that the former spymaster was in contact with at least 50 politicians, including PTI, PPP and PML-N.
The report also mentioned that the concerned authorities have evidence of Faiz Hameed's polticial engagements, and certain aspects of these contacts were being investigated.
The News revealed that these contacts were purportedly meant for personal benefits, such as referring someone for employment or awarding a ticket to a known person.
However, Gen Faiz argued that these types of contacts were not unusual.
Earlier, the former spymaster was charged with multiple offences, including his engagement in political engagement and violating the official Secret Act, according to a statement shared by the Internal Services Public Relations (ISPR),
The military declared General (retd) Faiz Hameed’s activities damaging for the country’s security and interests.
In the statement, it was said that General Faiz Hameed also misused his position and authority.
The ISPR further revealed that a separate investigation is underway to examine his alleged role in violent incidents that fueled chaos and unrest in the country, including those linked to May 9.
