The family of a three-year-old girl who was killed after being hit by a double-cabin vehicle in Karachi's Orangi Town has filed a Rs135.7 million compensation claim against the driver and owners of the vehicle.

The case was heard by the Senior Civil Judge (West) at the City Court, which issued notices to the respondents and sought their replies by October 21.

According to the plaintiff’s lawyer, Usman Farooq, three-year-old Ayat Noor was hit by a speeding double-cabin vehicle in Orangi Town’s Sector 11½ on July 12 and died from injuries sustained in the accident.

The lawyer alleged that the accident occurred due to the driver’s excessive speed, negligence, carelessness and failure to take proper precautions. He said the driver, the person accompanying him and the vehicle owners were jointly responsible for the fatal accident.

The family has asked the court to order compensation under the Fatal Accidents Act.

The driver had fled the scene after the accident.
