JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has stated that his party will decide on casting its votes in favor of the 26th constitutional amendment after receiving a response from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Speaking alongside PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari late Monday night, Fazl said the PTI requested a day for further deliberation on the proposed constitutional amendment.
He noted that JUI-F had reached a consensus on the constitutional package after the government removed clauses deemed unacceptable to his party, leaving no major points of disagreement with the ruling coalition.
Fazl emphasized that JUI-F kept PTI informed about their negotiations with the government. He acknowledged that, despite certain issues PTI has with the government's attitude, the message conveyed by PTI founder Imran Khan was positive.
The PTI’s request for a day to consult with its senior leadership was seen as reasonable by Fazl, who agreed to give them time.
Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari added that he hopes the legislation will be passed with the consensus of all political parties.
Meanwhile, JUI-F Senator Kamran Murtaza indicated that they would not vote on the bill if it were tabled in the upper house Monday night, supporting Fazl's call for more time to achieve broader consensus.
