Field Marshal Asim Munir to visit Iran on Monday

Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Asim Munir will travel to Tehran on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said on Sunday.

Citing two Pakistani government sources, Reuters reported that CDF Munir would hold talks with Iranian leaders on the latest developments in the conflict.

Pakistan has been playing a mediating role in efforts to facilitate negotiations between Tehran and Washington over the war, which began after US and Israeli strikes on Iran in February.

According to one Pakistani official, the discussions are expected to cover US President Donald Trump’s threat of tougher sanctions against Iran, recent regional developments, the Pakistan-Türkiye-Saudi Arabia agreement and issues involving the Houthis.

The visit comes as tensions remain high, with Iran warning that it could respond militarily to further US pressure and sanctions. The measures could add to economic difficulties already facing the Islamic Republic.
