Multan: Two employees of the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) died of suffocation while cleaning a sewer line.
According to Rescue officials, the two workers were engaged in cleaning the sewer line late at night when they died after being overcome by toxic gases and suffocation.
Police said the two employees were cleaning the sewer line without proper safety equipment.
Meanwhile, WASA officials said one of the deceased workers was a permanent WASA employee, while the other was working on a contract basis.
They said neither worker had been instructed by WASA to clean the sewer line and that both had entered the sewer in their personal capacity to assist a private contractor.
WASA officials further stated that strict compliance with safety SOPs is ensured during such operations and that all necessary safety measures are mandatory before any sewerage work begins.
