A five-year-old child allegedly died, while his parents and siblings were found unconscious, after fumigation in Karachi's Defence area, according to the police.

The distressing incident occurred in the posh Karachi neighborhood of Defence’s Khayaban-e-Saher. Authorities sprayed insecticide in the area, which affected the family, including the parents and five of their children.

All family members were transferred to a private hospital in Clifton, where the five-year-old succumbed to the effects of the poisonous spray.

An official of the police said that all family members, including the director of a private hospital Dr Ziaudding Sheikh, his wife and four of his teenage children, Zohaib, Shahzain, Jannat and Zara, have been rescued, while five-year-old Moinuddin could not survive.

Two years ago, a similar incident was reported in Karachi's Mehmoodabad. Pesticide spray released a toxic fume that filled a poorly ventilated flat, resulting in the immediate death of a four-year-old girl.

The rest of the family, including four siblings and their mother, fell ill.
