Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Qazi Faez Isa said on Wednesday that the future of Pakistan is being destroyed systematically.

The top judge remarked this in a case pertaining to appointments of vice-chancellors.

The apex court head thinks that Pakistan has been heading towards collapsing situation "gradually".

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) submitted a nationwide universities report before a three-member bench.

The reports stated there are 154 public universities in Pakistan, of which 66 universities are being run under acting or without VCs.

24 out of 29 universities in the federal capital have VCs, while the position is vacant in five, the report claimed.

Moreover, from 32 universities of KP, 10 have permanent VCs, 16 have acting VCs, and the position is vacant in six varsities.

The biggest province of Pakistan has 49 public universities, 20 of which have permanent VCs, and 29 are running under the supervision of acting VCs.

However, the report has prompted CJP to lose his cool.

"Universities are the future of Pakistan, and they are being destroyed systematically," he remarked.

CJP Isa also lashed out at the private TV channels for not broadcasting educational programs.

Slamming terrorist organisations, CJP said some people believed that they were serving Islam after destroying schools.
