Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court Rozi Khan Barrech on Monday took notice of the brutal killing of a couple over freewill marriage in the province's Dagari area, according to a statement issued by the BHC registrar.

He directed the additional chief secretary home and inspector general of police Balochistan to appear in court on July 22, tomorrow.

Separately, an anti-terrorism court in Quetta handed over tribal chief Sardar Sherbaz Khan, who is alleged to have issued directives for the couple's killing, to the Serious Crime Investigation Wing on one-day physical remand for questioning.

A video of the couple being brutally shot went viral on social media on Sunday, triggering widespread outrage over the brazen murders. The footage showed a group of armed men forcing a couple out of a vehicle and into the desert, where they are shot at a close range.

Meanwhile, a judicial magistrate ordered the exhumation of the woman’s body for a post-mortem examination, according to media reports.

The exhumation would be conducted under the magistrate's supervision as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.

The case has renewed calls for action against honour-based violence in Pakistan.
