The Islamabad district administration has decided to introduce mandatory registration for all online taxi and bike ride services operating in the federal capital, aiming to regulate the sector and curb unregistered transport activity.
According to officials, the new system will require all drivers and vehicles associated with online ride-hailing platforms to be registered under a centralised digital database.
The move is intended to ensure compliance with existing transport regulations and improve monitoring of commercial ride services in the city.
In this regard, the Islamabad Deputy Commissioner has directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner East to establish contact with the chief executive officers of all online taxi and bike ride companies to ensure coordination and timely implementation of the registration process.
Service providers have been instructed to cooperate with the district administration and share all required data.
The Deputy Commissioner has also ordered the Secretary of the Islamabad Transport Authority to initiate action against unregistered bike ride services.
Officials said a crackdown will be launched against riders operating without registration, adding that no unregistered vehicle or bike service will be permitted to operate in Islamabad.
Under the policy, all registrations will be carried out through a digital automation system, which will maintain complete records of drivers and vehicles.
Islamabad Police will be granted full access to the registration platform, enabling them to verify credentials during routine checks or in response to complaints.
Officials further stated that registered drivers will be required to enter passenger details on the app before commencing each trip, making the process mandatory for all rides.
