ISLAMABAD: Under the new grading formula, the Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) has approved an increase in the grace marks from three to five, raising passing marks to 40 against 33 in the past.

According to the IBCC, teachers can now provide five grace marks to push the candidate to 40 marks, in contrast to the previous three grace marks to pass the candidate.

The decision will be applied to matriculation and intermediate examination results across the country from the 2025 examinations.

The grace marks can be given in a maximum of two subjects, however, in case of failure of the candidate in any third subject, the teacher will not be permitted to provide marks.

The approval was given during the two-day meeting held by IBCC with the presence of the chairmen of education boards from all four provinces, Executive Director IBCC Ghulam Ali Mallah, and education officers of the four provinces.

The meeting also approved various other recommendations including providing concession in education fees to orphan students and a proposal to add an “orphan status” box in the examination form.

According to the IBCC statement, the meeting discussed the harmonization of the admission schedule of medical and dental colleges. All the provinces agreed to conduct the exams in March/April and declare the results in June/July.
