The sales of Islamic literature, including the Holy Quran and Hadith books, have witnessed an increase of 40 percent during the holy month of Ramadan in Pakistan, data compiled through independent sources revealed on Thursday.

The heightened fervor for repentance and worship during Ramadan has led to increased purchases of Islamic texts, prayer beads (tasbih), and traditional headwear (topi), data showed.

Umme Habiba, a buyer at an Islamic bookstore in Lahore, expressed her intent to purchase the Holy Quran with translation and supplication books for children.

"We get less time in daily routine but in this holy month [Ramadan], everyone in the family wants to worship that's why the demand for sacred books increases," she added.

Another buyer Muhammad Ramzan said that he had come to buy siparas (chapter-wise Holy Quran) for the Esal-e-Sawab of his deceased mother.

However, some buyers lamented the escalating prices, revealing that the cost of the Holy Quran has surged by Rs300 from Rs500 to Rs800.

Contrary to the ground reality, Dar-ul-Salam, Pakistan's largest Islamic publishing house, said that the sale of the Holy Books has been declined due to the PDF formats.
