Huawei to transform Lahore into Pakistan’s first smart city

Chief Minister Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, visited Huawei Technologies in the Longgang District of Shanghai, where she extended an invitation to the global tech giant to invest in Punjab and support her government in accelerating technological advancements.

During the visit, she proposed a transformative partnership to make Lahore Pakistan's first state-of-the-art modern smart city, leveraging Huawei's expertise and cooperation. 

She also invited Huawei to establish an office in the Nawaz Sharif IT City and assured full support for setting up an assembly and manufacturing plant in Punjab. 

She suggested the creation of a Punjab retail office and an after-sales service center for Huawei across the province.

CM Maryam held a meeting with Wang Chengdong, Huawei’s President for Government Affairs, during which several proposals and recommendations were discussed to make Lahore a leading digital city. 

She also invited Chengdong to visit Lahore to further strengthen collaboration.

The discussions also addressed key areas such as e-commerce, ecosystem production, healthcare, and the digitalisation of Punjab's education sector.

Huawei President Wang Chengdong provided a detailed briefing on the company's ongoing projects in Pakistan, particularly in Punjab, highlighting their potential to drive technological progress in the region.

Maryam Nawaz emphasised the importance of collaborating with global tech firms to introduce digital advancements, foster economic development, and enhance the quality of life for Punjab’s citizens.

 She stressed that such initiatives could promote technology-driven education for students in Punjab while creating employment opportunities in the tech sector.
