The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered the release of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry, who is currently detained in Adiala Jail in connection with allegations of corruption in construction projects in Jhelum.

Chief Justice IHC Aamer Farooq and Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri presided over the hearing of the graft case, with lawyer Qaiser Imam representing Fawad Chaudhry.

Judge Farooq criticised the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor for failing to provide sufficient evidence and approve the bail plea of Fawad Chaudhry.

He is currently incarcerated in Adiala Jail on judicial remand in the NAB case, and had filed a post-arrest bail plea with the IHC.

On December 16, 2023, NAB issued his arrest warrant for misappropriation in Jhelum Pind Dadan Khan project.

The Accountability Court of Islamabad on December 20, 2023, approved his ten-day physical remand and handed him over to NAB custody.
