Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf founder Imran Khan terming Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister (CM) Ali Amin Gandapur’s remarks against journalists during a PTI rally in Islamabad as "inappropriate,", said they are doing 'Jihad'.
Speaking to journalists at Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, who had protested Gandapur’s comments, Imran Khan expressed that the chief minister's remarks were uncalled for. "Gandapur should not have said this," Imran remarked.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by journalists, emphasizing that they continue to perform their duties despite difficult circumstances. "I have repeatedly said that the work journalists are doing under such pressure these days is a form of 'Jihad'," he added.
Imran Khan also noted that, like any profession, journalism has both good and bad practitioners. CM Gandapur had drawn criticism during the rally for calling female journalists "sell-outs" and for his overall critical stance toward the media.
Earlier on Sunday, K-P CM while addressing the rally at Islamabad’s Sangjani made severe allegations, labelling journalists as 'sellouts' and 'brokers'. These statements were strongly condemned by reporters.
The next day, during a Senate session on Monday , journalists boycotted proceedings in protest against Gandapur’s speech.
