A private university in Karachi has sparked outrage after hosting a welcome party for new students with an "Illuminati" and "Satanic" theme.

The event, which took place on October 19, was also held to celebrate the opening of a new campus of Indus University.

The program featured decorations and symbolism associated with the Illuminati and Satanism.

Photos and videos shared on social media show students posing with the Illuminati's "all-seeing eye" symbol, while projectors displayed images of Baphomet, a representation of Satan.

A neon-lit poster reading "Sata is happy with your progress" further fueled controversy.

The event has drawn criticism from various quarters, with many expressing concern over the university's choice of theme.

Some have accused the institution of promoting occultism and satanism, while others see it as a misguided attempt at edginess.

However, following the backlash, the varsity tendered an apology for "a neon Illuminati sign and a statement that was inappropriate and offensive".

"We want to clarify that this was the result of negligence and not an intentional act," the official statement read.

The university said that it "hired a third-party vendor", who was responsible for the "event decor".

"While we both share responsibility for this misstep, it was never our intention to offend," it added.
