Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to visit Pakistan in the first week of August, diplomatic sources confirmed on Wednesday.

The visit aims to further strengthen the longstanding friendship between the two neighbouring countries. According to high-level diplomatic sources, preparations for President Pezeshkian’s visit have entered their final stages. He will be accompanied by a high-powered delegation comprising senior Iranian officials and ministers.

During the visit, President  Pezeshkian is scheduled to hold key meetings with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari.

He will also meet Senate Chairman Yousuf Raza Gilani, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir.

The visit comes at a time of growing Pakistan-Iran cooperation, particularly in the wake of the Iran-Israel war. Diplomatic insiders revealed that President Pezeshkian will personally thank Pakistan for its unwavering support during the conflict.

Historical parallels have been drawn to the Iran-Iraq war, when Iran similarly expressed gratitude to Pakistan on the floor of its parliament. Notably, President Pezeshkian had also raised slogans of "Pakistan Zindabad" during a recent parliamentary session in Tehran.

The agenda of the visit is expected to cover a wide range of issues, including enhancing bilateral trade, energy cooperation, cross-border connectivity, and investment opportunities.

Talks on managing the Pak-Iran border and facilitating religious pilgrimages are also on the table.

Diplomatic sources noted that recent geopolitical tensions — particularly India’s use of Israeli-made weapons against Pakistan — have led to a tightening of bonds between Islamabad and Tehran.

President Pezeshkian’s visit is being seen as a key step in recalibrating regional alliances and reinforcing Pakistan-Iran ties in a shifting geopolitical landscape.
