Islamabad police get custody of Mushtaq Ahmed for three days in protest case

An anti-terrorism court (ATC) today remanded former senator Mushtaq Ahmad Khan and several other people in police custody for three days in a case pertaining to a protest in Islamabad.

The police brought Mushtaq and another suspect, Daniyal, before the ATC judge and sought their 30-day physical remand.

The prosecution informed the court that investigators needed more time to recover a vehicle and weapons allegedly used in connection with the case.

After hearing both sides, the judge approved a three-day physical remand instead of the 30 days requested by the prosecution. The court also directed police to produce the suspects again after the remand period ends.

The case was registered on July 31 at Shalimar Police Station on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Ghulam Murtaza.

According to the FIR, Mushtaq and dozens of others allegedly led a gathering of around 400 to 500 people in Islamabad's F-10 sector.

The FIR alleges that the former senator delivered provocative speeches through loudspeakers, forcing shopkeepers to close their businesses.
