The Supreme Court has summoned the Sindh inspector general of police over delays in registering murder cases.

A three-member bench heard a case concerning delays in the registration of murder FIRs and directed the Sindh IG to appear in person at the next hearing.

The court also summoned the Sindh advocate general and the DIG Sukkur for the next hearing.

Justice Hashim Kakar criticised the Sindh police over delays in registering criminal cases. “There is no concept of reward and punishment in Sindh,” Justice Kakar remarked, adding that the Sindh police themselves were helping people get acquitted.

He noted that an FIR in the case under hearing had been registered two days after the murder. “Police are reluctant to register cases in many instances. Even animals are not killed this way,” the judge remarked.

Justice Salahuddin observed that the situation in Sukkur and Larkana was particularly poor.
The court adjourned further hearing of the case until September 21.
