Authorities in Islamabad have locked down the capital’s red zone following a protest announcement from the Aafia Movement, which seeks the release of Dr Aafia Siddiqui, media reports said on Sunday.
Dr Siddiqui, a Pakistani national, is currently serving an 86-year prison sentence at the Federal Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, on charges including attempted murder.
The district administration has enforced heightened security measures, blocking access to key routes and using containers to close off the red zone in an effort to prevent the demonstration. Officials stressed that no permission had been granted for any protest in the area.
Law enforcement remains on high alert to ensure public safety and maintain order, while supporters of Dr Siddiqui continue to express concerns over her imprisonment, demanding justice and fair treatment.
