Political tensions in Karachi have escalated sharply following the Gul Plaza incident and the way it was handled by the government of Sindh.

Unidentified individuals reportedly chalked slogans on walls in different areas in Karachi, such as, “Karachi ko wafaq ke hawalay karo” and “Karachi ko fauj ke hawalay karo.”

While wall chalking has long been part of Karachi’s political expression, the latest messages reflect growing public frustration after the fire at the Gul Plaza that killed dozens and injured many more, while several remain missing as search operations near completion.

The slogans came after a heated debate between MQM-P and PPP-led Sindh government over the man-handling of the Gul plaza fire incident. Mustafa Kamal, criticized the Sindh government’s administration and called for greater federal oversight of Karachi’s governance.

On Tuesday, official police security was abruptly withdrawn from MQM-P leaders In Karachi. MQM-P has linked the move to their criticism of the Sindh government and called an emergency press conference to outline its response.

The city’s political situation remains tensed, while debates over accountability and governance of the man-handled metropolis continue to dominate public and political narrative.
