After enduring an intense heatwave with temperatures feeling well over 50°C, residents of Karachi are expected to experience monsoon showers from July 8 to 10, weather expert said.

Weather specialist Owais Haider indicated that light rain could begin in the city by Sunday evening or night due to the anticipated formation of a "thunder-cell" in the northeast.

He also mentioned that daytime temperatures might intensify, with forecasts suggesting a range between 37°C and 39°C.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also confirmed the possibility of drizzling this evening or night. However, the weather will remain predominantly hot and humid over the next 24 hours.

According to the Met Office, winds are currently blowing at 17 kilometers per hour from the west, with humidity levels at 74%. The temperature is expected to peak around 37°C.

In preparation for the upcoming monsoon, the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC) in Karachi has declared a rain emergency as of Saturday. The board has established special teams to ensure prompt drainage of rainwater.

A CBC spokesperson stated that 1,288 staff members have been assigned to the rain emergency plan, with 638 working across seven sectors and 650 dedicated to rainwater drainage.

The board has also identified low-lying areas prone to flooding after rainfall. Special teams have been designated for tasks in DHA Phase-I through Phase VIII, Clifton Blocks 8 and 9, and the market area. Additionally, heavy machinery will be deployed in these areas, with extra teams assigned to commercial streets such as Khayaban-e-Shujaat, Khayaban-e-Shehbaz, Khayaban-e-Badar, and Khayaban-e-Tariq.
