Karachi is expected to experience a further drop in temperature as a westerly weather system continues to move across Sindh, bringing rain, strong winds and colder conditions from Friday to Sunday.

Officials said the system is likely to produce light to moderate rainfall in Karachi as well as Jamshoro, Dadu, Thatta and Badin. Showers accompanied by gusty winds, dust and occasional thunder and lightning are also forecast during this period.

The weather pattern is expected to affect several other districts, including Tharparkar, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Naushahro Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad. Similar conditions, with rain and strong winds, are likely in Khairpur, Sukkur, Ghotki, Jacobabad, Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot and Shikarpur.

Earlier, winter rainfall was reported in many parts of Karachi, leaving the city with cool and misty conditions. Rain first hit areas such as Surjani Town, Musharraf Colony and Hub before spreading to North Karachi, II Chundrigar Road, Nagan Chowrangi, Malir, Ahsanabad, Dalmia, Scheme 33, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and the Buffer Zone. Light drizzle was also recorded in PECHS.

Meteorological officials said the rain would further intensify cold conditions in the city. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast periods of heavy rain and strong winds in Karachi and neighbouring districts, with unstable weather expected to persist through the weekend.

Weather analyst Jawad Memon said wind speeds could reach between 25 and 40 kilometres per hour, while most areas may receive between eight and 20 millimetres of rainfall.

The Met Office also released rainfall figures for the city. Surjani Town recorded the highest rainfall at 26.3 millimetres, followed by North Karachi with 20 millimetres and Gulshan-e-Maamar with 17.6 millimetres. Bahria Town Phase 5 received 14.2 millimetres, while Saadi Town recorded 10 millimetres.
