PCB launches disciplinary inquiry into reports about Imam, Rizwan

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has launched an internal inquiry into reports about the conduct and discipline of former Test players Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan.

The board confirmed the development on Monday but did not disclose details of the allegations or confirm reports that the investigation had been expanded to include the players’ mobile phone data.

PCB media director Amir Mir said the inquiry was being conducted under the board’s rules.

“The PCB has initiated an internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning discipline and conduct, which are currently being reviewed internally,” Mir said. He added that the board was following its standard procedures and would give all relevant individuals due consideration during the process.

“The PCB handles such matters in accordance with its standard procedures. The process is being conducted under PCB regulations, ensuring that all concerned individuals are given due consideration,” he said.

The inquiry follows a media report claiming that the PCB had obtained data from the mobile phones of Imam and Rizwan over their activities and contacts while the Pakistan team was in London.

The report said the phones were taken by the team’s security officer after Pakistan lost the second Test against England at Lord’s by 194 runs. They were reportedly returned several hours later after data from the devices had allegedly been transferred.

The PCB has not confirmed either the seizure of the phones or the reported transfer of their data. Similar claims have also appeared in other media reports.

Mir urged caution over the claims circulating online and said reports that had not been verified should not be treated as established facts.
