The traffic police in Karachi have collected a staggering Rs1.29 billion in fines from over 2 million citizens for various traffic violations in last one year.

According to official data, a total of 2 million tickets were issued, with Rs1.19 billion already paid by the violators. However, 114,142 individuals still owe over Rs100 million in unpaid fines.

In the first seven months of this year alone, the traffic police issued 992,576 challans, amounting to Rs690 million.

Official sources revealed that 30 percent of the total fine amount goes to the traffic police, while 70 percent is allocated to the provincial government.

This means the traffic police can claim Rs360 million from the total collection.

15 percent of the traffic police's share is distributed as cash incentives to officers, while the remaining amount is used for purchasing goods and equipment.
