Khawaja Shamsul Islam’s killer identified as ex-gunman’s son: Karachi police

Karachi police have identified the suspect involved in the murder of senior lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam.

According to DIG South Asad Raza, the killer has been identified as Imran Afridi, the son of Khawaja Shamsul Islam’s former gunman.

DIG Asad Raza revealed that Imran Afridi had previously attempted to attack the lawyer a few months ago. The accused reportedly believed that Khawaja Shamsul Islam was responsible for orchestrating his father’s murder back in 2021.

Police officials further stated that a comprehensive strategy has been devised to apprehend the suspect.

Checkpoints have been set up at key exit points across the city, including bus terminals at Sohrab Goth and other routes leading out of Karachi.

All buses are being stopped and searched as part of the manhunt.

Additionally, police checkpoints have been provided with the suspect’s photograph and other identifying details to aid in his arrest.

Renowned lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam was shot dead during a firing incident outside a mosque in Defence Phase 6.

The attack occurred shortly after he had attended the funeral prayers of prominent businessman Muzammil Paracha.
