At least 148 more people have lost their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during the past 24 hours, pushing the death toll from rain-related incidents over the last two days to 332.

The provincial government has declared a state of emergency until August 31 as rescue and relief operations continue across the worst-hit districts.

According to official figures, another 156 people have sustained injuries. Buner, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Bajaur, and Swat are among the most affected regions.

In Buner alone, fatalities have crossed 250, while 11 bodies have so far been recovered in Battagram.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned that heavy downpours are expected to continue across KP and other parts of the country until August 21, raising fears of further devastation.

Meanwhile, the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad received intermittent rain on Sunday morning, bringing relief from the heat but also triggering an emergency declaration in Rawalpindi.

The Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) has been placed on high alert after water levels in Lai Nullah rose to 12 feet at Katarian and 8.5 feet at Gawalmandi. By afternoon, over 70 millimeters of rain had been recorded in the area.
