The Punjab Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department has sacked a female doctor for performing a two-finger test (virginity test) of a minor rape victim.
The development came to light during the hearing of a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) filed by the rape suspect requesting to form a medical board for re-examination of the victim.
The department submitted a written report in the provincial apex court, revealing that the adhoc Dr Aliza Gill was terminated for issuing a medical certificate of the minor victim on the basis of her virginity test.
Earlier in 2020, the LHC had issued directives not to perform a two-finger test or virginity test on the rape victim.
It also ordered the health authorities to refrain from submitting medicolegal reports on the basis of virginity tests.
A case was registered against the suspect for allegedly sexually assaulting a 10-year-old girl in Kasur.
However, the suspect's lawyer Advocate Mian Dawood claimed that Dr Aliza issued an illegal medical certificate against his client on the basis of a two-finger test.
Justice Farooq Haider directed the Kasur police to present the victim and her mother in court and adjourned the hearing till Thursday (tomorrow).
