The forensic report of the white powder accompanying threatening letters sent to the high court and Supreme Court judges found 10% arsenic mixed in the substance, according to the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD).
Inhaling high amounts of arsenic present in the powder can be harmful and affect the lungs and nervous system
The higher ranks in the judiciary who received threatening letters along with the powder included four Supreme Court judges, eight Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges, and six Lahore High Court (LHC) judges.
LHC's Justice Ali Baqar Najafi became the latest judge to receive a threatening letter.
Following an FIR filed against two unidentified suspects, the CTD, with the help of NADRA launched an investigation into CCTV footage from letterboxes at the Satellite Town sub-divisional post office in Rawalpindi.
News of the threatening letters sparked fear and uproar in the judiciary. First, judges at the Islamabad High Court received them, followed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa and three other Supreme Court judges, including Justice Athar Minallah, Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail, and Justice Aminuddin.
Six LHC judges, including Justice Baqar Najafi, also received letters.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed to thoroughly investigate the matter and identify the suspects involved in threatening the higher judiciary.
