In an effort to address post-rain issues, the local administration in Karachi has declared a rain emergency in the city amid the prediction of heavy rains.
Salman Abdullah Murad, Deputy Mayor, took the decision to impose a rain emergency after the Sindh government’s instructions to take necessary measures to deal with the expected rain.
The authorities canceled the vacations of all KMC staff, and concerned departments were instructed to take immediate action.
On Thursday, after his visit to various areas of Karachi, the Deputy Mayor directed solid and waste management to be on high alert.
He directed the placement of machinery at the underpasses and highways across the city to prevent water accumulation.
However, in a media talk, the mayor expressed satisfaction over the pre-rain steps taken by the local bodies and urged the citizens to stay far from the electricity poles and trees during strong winds and rain.
In compliance with the instructions of Director General KDA Syed Shujaat Hussain, a high-level meeting of the department chaired by Chief Engineer Tariq Rafi was held at the Civic Centre.
Rafi directed his team to remove the signboards temporarily and close all manholes in the townships and schemes to avert untoward incidents.
