A man was killed and around two dozen animals died in separate incidents of lightning strikes as heavy to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms continued in Tharparkar on Tuesday.

According to local residents, lightning struck a katcha hut in Pasol village near Nagarparkar, killing 32-year-old Taro Kohli while he was asleep inside.

In separate incidents, 21 goats and two cows died after being struck by lightning in Mithrio Halepota, Rojh and Dhanbhario villages.

“The animals were grazing in the open near homes when lightning struck them,” villagers said.

Officials of the district livestock department confirmed that at least 193 cattle have died in Tharparkar due to lightning strikes since June 14.

Meanwhile, the provincial health department has issued an advisory urging citizens to avoid open areas during rain and thunderstorms to reduce the risk of such incidents.
