Political leaders in Pakistan often cultivate a cult-like following, considering the adulation they receive from supporters and promoting ‘personality worship.’
This trend extends to extraordinary claims, with followers attributing supernatural blessings to their leaders, setting them apart from others.
A recent video circulating on 'X' shows an unidentified member of Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) praising his leader for constructing a motorway.
During a formal meeting attended by prominent PML-N leaders, including Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz, and Shehbaz Sharif, the member shared this anecdote.
In the video, the PML-N recounted an incident where a man chanted slogans for Nawaz Sharif at his brother's funeral, attributing this expression of loyalty to the accessibility provided by the motorway.
The member explained that he attended a funeral where “a man although couldn't attend Nawaz Sharif's political rally (jalsa), the motorway built by the leader enabled him to reach his brother's funeral.”
The video has sparked varied reactions on social media, with some speculating that it might be a strategic move to garner favour within the party, possibly for securing an election ticket.

The upcoming elections in Pakistan are slated for February 8 next year, and analysts indicate that PML-N is working to strengthen its position in Punjab, where it has faced challenges.
Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, who has been elected to office three times, recently concluded four years of self-imposed exile in London. He returned to Pakistan on Saturday, arriving on a chartered plane from Dubai.
