MQM-P's plea to make Gul Plaza fire report public dismissed

The Sindh Information Commission has rejected a request seeking to make the judicial commission report on the Gul Plaza inferno public.

The application had been filed by senior MQM-Pakistan leader Dr Farooq Sattar, who sought disclosure of the report prepared by the judicial commission formed to investigate the tragedy.

In its written order, the commission included the response submitted by the Sindh chief secretary, which stated that the inquiry and implementation process related to the Gul Plaza incident is still under way.

The order said the judicial commission's report cannot be made public until the investigation into the Gul Plaza tragedy is completed.

The commission added that a detailed written judgment would be issued later.

Responding to the decision, Dr Sattar said his party would review the detailed order once it is released and decide on its future legal course of action.
