Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned television actress and model Momina Iqbal and a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) lawmaker after her allegations of online harassment and death threats went viral on social media.
NCCIA Punjab head Muhammad Ali Waseem confirmed that both parties had been called for questioning on Thursday following the submission of Momina’s complaint. He said the matter would be investigated strictly on merit.
According to officials cited in local media reports, the cybercrime agency moved quickly after Momina’s public appeal gained widespread attention and reportedly reached senior PML-N leadership, including Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
In a social media post tagged to PML-N leaders, Momina Iqbal said she faced abuse and threats from a politician. She said she complained to FIA and NCCIA but they did nothing. She also said attempts were made to silence her on the matter. Momina Iqbal now wants the authorities to take action against those involved.
She further claimed that if the law enforcement authorities do not take action, she will share evidence with the media in a press conference. She said both she and her family had suffered severe mental stress because of the threats made in attempt to suppress her complaints.
Momina did not publicly identify the PML-N lawmaker but demanded an impartial investigation, protection for her family, and legal action against all those allegedly involved.
No formal response from the accused lawmaker has yet been made public.
