A journalist on Pakistan Television (PTV) made a controversial claim that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is set to introduce Chinese technology in Punjab to eliminate the need for chemotherapy, describing the treatment as a “fraud” for cancer patients.
During a program on the state-run news channel, journalist Razi Dada criticised chemotherapy, labeling it a harmful practice. He alleged that the treatment involves 8 to 12 sessions, which, in his words, “only harms the patient.”
“The nation will get rid of chemotherapy,” he claimed. “The billions spent on this fraudulent treatment will be exposed because Maryam Nawaz is bringing Chinese technology that freezes cancer, allowing it to be removed from the body.”
He further stated that this new technology would eliminate side effects like hair loss, often associated with chemotherapy.
The journalist also criticised the hefty costs of cancer treatments, claiming they compel patients to seek donations for what he described as an unnecessary and ineffective procedure.
“Maryam Nawaz has provided an alternative to chemotherapy,” he said confidently.
Another journalist on the panel, Amin Hafeez, claimed that the proposed hospital would treat patients from all backgrounds, including those in the advanced stages of cancer, unlike other cancer hospitals in the country.
Recentlty, reports surfaced in the media, stating that CM Maryam Nawaz signed an agreement with a Chinese company to introduce advanced medical equipment for treating cancer patients without chemotherapy.
She recently met with Dr Luo Fuliang, President of Hygea Medical Technologies, who pledged professional support for the development of Nawaz Sharif Cancer Hospital.
However, the journalist's remarks sparked widespread backlash online. Many criticised the state-run news channel for airing such misleading claims, which could discourage people from seeking life-saving chemotherapy treatments.
Chemotherapy is recognised globally as a primary treatment for cancer, alongside surgeries and other medical options. Treatment plans are tailored to each patient’s condition, and chemotherapy cannot be dismissed outright.
Social media users called for legal action against PTV, accusing it of spreading misinformation about cancer treatment.
